Synopsis

Due to the scarcity of rains, the drought conditions threaten about one third of the Apulian agricultural production. The problem does not concern only the production of fruit, vegetables and wheat but also crops destined for animal feed and, despite the water transfers from nearby Basilicata, the drought conditions of Puglia force to increase the extraction of groundwater, with the consequent risk of soil pollution due to the infiltration of salty waters.
