Synopsis

Matera, from national “shame”, as it was defined by Togliatti in 1948, to European Capital of Culture in 2019. The Sassi of Matera, from a peasant setting of misery to a location for great film productions. It is in this context that the comedy Sassiwood takes place. Among these contradictions, between past and present, between art and industry, between identity and globalization, between real development and illusions, the lives, at times grotesque, of the protagonists of the film develop. All linked to the world or the dream of cinema, all looking for something or for themselves. All marching, on the same day, towards their destiny. In conclusion, the real redemption could be a return to poetry and humanity. The film is also a tribute to Albino Pierro, an important Lucanian poet, who was also a candidate for the Nobel Prize.
